Tanya & Justin the Birthday Shoot

Tanya and Justin are special to Jane and I, we have known them since birth and they are the children to a very close friend. I had the pleasure of shooting them last weekend as a birthday gift to their mother. The shoot was so easy and relaxed, it helps when one is an established model and the other a rising star in the fashion photography world.

Natasha & Aaron - a special baby bump moment

I first spotted Natasha at a wedding I was shooting last year, she was a guest and looked so good in the camera that I offered her a free shoot. Well she took me up on the offer some 9 months later only this time she was 34 weeks pregnant. I'd always wanted to to a bump shoot so we spent the afternoon in the studio experimenting and having a giggle. Both Tash and Aaron were great and I'm looking forward to that bump materialising into a delightful bundle of joy.. Enjoy the images

The Kylie & Dan Pre-Wedding Session

Kylie and Dan are a young couple in love and I have the pleasure of shooting their wedding day later this year. Today was a get to know you session at the wedding venue, The Old Rectory just outside Norwich.
The rectory has some wonderful gardens where we could lose ourselves and Kylie and Dan soon felt comfortable in front of the camera, a good looking couple who are going to make a great Bride & Groom.

The Railway Man

Peter Spoerer is an extraordinary man, he has an absolute passion for railway and all things associated with it, in particular the model kind. Peter  is an optician by profession, I need new glasses, he needed a photo taken for an advert he was placing.. I do like a bit of bartering but wonder how HMRC see it?

If it's model railways you are after Peter is your man

Bronze Awards from SWPP

My two submissions to the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers were put before the judges for this months assessments. I was awarded bronze standards for both, I'm not quite so hung up this time as I realise the quality standard to achieve a gold is incredibly high... and the number of entries that are 'unclassified' is huge, in fact the majority end up with no award. So the Phat photographer will not be beating himself up, instead he will improve his work and will vow to achieve a Gold standard before the year is out....watch this space..

The Arnolds Sports Challenge

I covered the Arnolds Sports Challenge in Norwich last week, The challenge is a competition between the professional firms i.e. Solicitors, Accountants, Surveyors, Bankers etc.. They come together once a month during the summer to compete for the coveted Challenge Trophy.. The first event of this year was the darts & pool competition at Rileys in Norwich. The Challenge is all for a good cause, The Nelsons Journey Charity which I had the pleasure of shooting earlier this year..

The night I photographed David Bowie.

It was around October 1990 at the Cambridge Corn Hall, I had been given a press pass from a mate who was the local rock and pop journalist who was more country than rock..
He knew I was a Bowie fan and I was overwhelmed by his generosity... I hadn't been shooting (photos) that long and the conditions were strict... No flash, you only had the first three songs to get the shot... so armed with my Pentax and a roll of Ilford 400 asa film, I set about capturing the most important images of my fledgling photography career...I treasure these images and I'm happy to share them with you..

A bronze Award from the SWPP

Evie Knights 3 years old
This was my first submission to the Society for Wedding and Portrait Photographers and I was rather delighted to be awarded a bronze for my shot of Evie. I must be honest my initial reaction was slightly disappointing, I'm so competitive but it wasn't unit I saw the Gold awards I realised how much we have to step up to the mark and also the number of submissions that were unclassified was quite high.. So I'm really a happy phat photographer..

Rachael & Ryan's Pre Wedding Shoot

Rachael and Ryan are getting married at Sutton Staithe in July. Our pre-shoot took place at the local hotel during a glorious sunny morning. We spent a couple of hours having fun in the children's play park and by the river, it's going to be stunning in the middle of summer. A lovely couple who are putting so much into their big day... loads of bridesmaids, men and ladies in uniform (Ryan is in the RAF) it's going to be great.

Rob & Harriets' Pre Wedding get to know the photographer

I had the pleasure of meeting Rob and Harriet last weekend to go over the finer detail of their forthcoming wedding at Lenwade House Hotel. The weather was kind and the daffs were out in force, it will be a different scene in May when the wedding takes place but just as beautiful by weeping willow. Looking forward to the big day .

Keeping Abreast - The Gallery Set

I arrived back from skiing and went straight into a back stage shoot for the Gallery Haircutters at the Keeping Abreast 'More than Just Fashion' show in Norwich. Keeping Abreast are a breast cancer reconstruction support group doing some fantastic work offering support to women who have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer and facing the possibility of mastectomy, and also women further down the line who are also considering reconstructive surgery.
The Gallery is run by my good friends Adrian and Mandy Dunham, they have been strong supporters of the charity from the outset and provided a dazzling display of hair and fashion beauty. I was back stage shooting the preparations and took the opportunity to set up a mini studio to capture the models at their best... Here is just a few.

Law firm Kester Cunningham John have kindly donated office space for the charity to base itself while it conducts a fundraising campaign to build its own facility.

This was one of the early shots and I knew then there would never be another woman for me.... love my missus.

More lightpainting in the dark winter nights

I thought I would share some of my latest creations using all manner of lights and gizmos. The thing to remember here is these images are complete one-offs. I guess any photo is a one off but these are original artworks. If you fancy one on your wall it can be arranged..

A weekend spent with two lovely ladies and my wife of course

.... and on Sunday I had the pleasure of doing a pre shoot with Veronica in preparation for the big shoot in a couple of weeks.

Well Saturday was spent in the studio with Lucy who wanted some new portrait shots taken for her PR business. I hope she is pleased with them.
